Out with the Old - January 2018 Empties

After finishing 22 products in December, I thought January would be a much smaller month in terms of empties - but I ended up with 18 products in my empties bin by the 31st! Now I can't take full credit for finishing all of these products, Morgan contributed a few of them. Click through to read my thoughts on the dozen and a half products I finished in the month of January. As always, the products I'll repurchase, or already had a backup of, will be marked with an asterisk (*).

I finished two bottles of Neutrogena's HydroBoost Foaming Cleanser in 2017 and loved it, but as a cleanser addict I had to move on to trying something new. Morgan was less willing to move on, and has been using this as his in-shower cleanser. Unfortunately, it seems like this foaming face wash has been discontinued, so he's picked up a replacement.

It took me nearly two years to finish this lip scrub from Borghese! This supposed lip exfoliator was more of a thick clear gloss with a few sporadic granules of sugar thrown in for show. Clearly I'm not the only one that was disappointed by the ReStore Conditioning Lip Polish because it was discontinued earlier this year, along with the rest of Borghese' Hydrology range.

Sukin Super Greens Nutrient Rich Facial Moisturizer*
After using three bottles of Sukin's Sensitive Skin Moisturizer, I decided to switch it up and try the Super Greens Nutrient Rich option instead. I powered through this vegetable enriched moisturizer and have already bought a second bottle. I have a full review coming up shortly.

Glossier Priming Moisturizer
I had my eyes on Glossier's Priming Moisturizer since not long after it's launch. I often heard that this two-in-one primer and moisturizer was similar to the classic Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre, but alas it is not. Glossier's Priming Moisturizer was a disappointingly thin lotion that barely hydrated my skin, while causing a mild burning sensation. I won't be picking up the full size.

This is the third bottle of The Ordinary's Niacinamide and Zinc serum that I've finished. I adore this serum for it's ability to prevent acne and keep my pores in check. I popped into my local Deciem store yesterday hoping to repurchase, but as usual they were clean out of stock of this miraculous serum. I'll be repurchasing as soon as possible!

I've been a big fan of Garnier's Micellar Water every since it was new on the market! This has long been my go-to for makeup removal, but I've been incorporating more cleansing oils into my routine, so I don't reach for it anywhere near as often - it actually took me about eight months to finish this bottle off! I'm currently trying a different micellar water, but I'll more than likely repurchase Garnier's when the time comes.

Lush Angels On Bare Skin Cleanser
Another empty from Morgan. He's been using this scrub for years, but has decided to move on to a more gentle cleanser for daily use (per my guidance). I've also used and enjoyed Angels on Bare Skin in the past before I was more skincare savvy, and even now I'd still steal the occasional pinch of this scrub when I opted for a physical exfoliator. It's doubtful that either of us will repurchase Angels on Bare Skin.

Starlet Cosmetics Chocolate Eye Pencil
I received this chocolate brown eyeliner pencil ages and ages ago in an Ipsy bag - actually, I should say MyGlam bag - yes it was that long ago! I used this pencil all the time to line my lower lash line and darken up a couple faded freckles. It seemed like this pencil would never end, and when it finally did I was quite sad to see it go. I doubt I can buy Starlet Cosmetics in Australia (if the brand is even still in business, I've never heard of them aside from this product), but I'd definitely repurchase this fantastic brown eyeliner if I could.

Another eyeliner that I had for ages! This Birchbox exclusive eyeliner lived in my purse as my touch up pencil, for when my waterline faded or my wing smudged. The pencil had been used down to a nib and started to change in consistency so I knew it was time to go.

Fully Charged is my number one favorite mascara, but unfortunately this mini tube wasn't anywhere near as good as the full size. The formula was much drier than usual and didn't yield the long lashes I'm used to, so I'm tossing it out. I will certainly repurchase a full size in the future, but I won't bother with any minis that come my way.

Dermelect's Commando was a surprise favorite for me. When I first received it in my November 2015 Ipsy Bag, I thought it was hideous, but I tried it anyway and fell in love with the neutral rosy brown color. This was the polish I reached for when I wanted to look a little more put together. I used at least 3/4 of the bottle before the formula got too thick to work with. Dermelect is difficult to get ahold of in Australia, so I'm currently on the hunt for a similar shade. Suggestions are welcome.

I never really got into matte liquid lipsticks that way almost everyone else did, but I did love Revlon's Ultra HD Matte Lip Color in Seduction. This rosy shade is a go-with-anything color with a wearable and comfortable formula - the perfect day to day lip product, really. I used up every drop I could get out of Seduction before it ended up in my empties bin. I'm trying to give some of my other lip products some love at the moment, but I intend on picking this liquid lipstick up again one day.

Benefit The Porefessional Primer*
Have you ever wondered why Benefit even bothers to sell a full sized tube of The Porefessional? Because I do. They give out little mini tubes of this pore blurring primer with every purchase, in every subscription box, and sometimes just when you're walking past their counter in Myer. I use them and enjoy them - this legendary primer is great for filling in pores and mattifying the skin, but I'd never actually purchase it. I already have an extra mini tube waiting for me.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer
I finally finished my mini pan of Hoola! I've been working on this deluxe sized bronzer for at least four years, slowly chipping away at it (the process is documented in my Products I've Hit Pan On series), but never seeming to get closer to the end. Now that we're at the peak of summer in Sydney, I've been playing around with bronzer a bit more, enough to thin the remaining product out so much that it crumbled. I couldn't be bothered to repress this endless bronzer, so the pan ended up in my recycling bin. My project pan posts are going to look so weird without it!

Another product I'd been working on panning. I decided to toss this palette because I got no joy from using it. The pigment was never that great in most of the shades, and I hated it's strong powdery fragrance. I felt a little sad seeing this palette go into the trash, but in the end I don't really miss it.

Essence Blush Brush
This Essence Blush Brush has been with me from the very beginning of my blogging days, and it feels so strange not to see it in my brush cup anymore! While the bristles remained pretty much good as new, the ferrule snapped in a tragic brush dropping accident last year, causing the brush head to be unstable during application. Eventually it completely snapped off and was beyond repair, so I had to bin in. This brush will be missed.

Hask Monoi Coconut Nourishing Shine Hair Oil
I love Hask's little vials of hair oil - so much so that I'm on a mission to try them all. I can't say that the Monoi Coconut Nourishing Shine oil was very different from any of the others I've tried, but it left my hair silky and manageable while imparting a delicious coconut scent.

Soap&Glory Hand Food*
I finally got around to trying Soap&Glory's famous Hand Food Hand Cream. Supposedly this is the best affordable hand cream on the market. While I'm not sure if I agree with that lofty statement, I do really like it! This hand cream is buttery and hydrating, and of course it smells amazing. I've already picked up another tube in the Sugar Crush scent.

Bath&BodyWorks Ocean Shower Gel
And finally one more empty product from Morgan. Before Bath&BodyWorks became easily accessible in Australia I hyped their shower gels up to him so much that he bought one on our first trip to their new Parramatta store. He loved the formula and the generic boy cologne scent. He decided to try a different scent, but I'm pretty sure I've converted him to B&BW.

What have you finished lately?
