August 2015 Ipsy Bag - Prep School

My Ipsy Bag is here - they spoiled me the last few months, sending me my bag on the 12th or 13th, but my bag didn't wind up in my mailbox until the 17th. I wasn't sure when it would arrive because I still haven't received a shipping email. After feeling pretty neutral about my July Bag, I was hoping for a stellar August Bag...and I could not be less impressed lol. This is one of my most disappointing bags in a good long while. All of the products are from brands that I'm just not interested in, and the only thing I really like is the bonus product I redeemed for.

If you aren't familiar with Ipsy, let me explain: this is a monthly beauty subscription that sends you 4-6 beauty products every month, in a new makeup bag - for just $10 (and shipping is free!).

Ipsy partnered with THIRTY FIVE brands this month - more than ever before!

New Partnerships: Juara Skincare, Batiste, Glamour Dolls, Trust Fund Beauty, Aila Cosmetics, Oz Naturals, Doucce,

Repeat Partnerships: Marc Anthony, Skone Cosmetics, Pencil Me In, Marsk, Hikari, Paula's Choice, Skinn Cosmetics. Clear Start by Dermalogica, Too Faced, Beauty Without Cruelty, Lord&Berry, La Fresh, City Color, Albertini, Doll 10, Noyah, Ofra, Jesse's Girl, Starlooks, Tarte, Clear Clinic Labs, Lather, Absolute!, Briogeo, Cover FX, Swissco, Bella Pierre, Juice Beauty

I thought I was going to love this month's bag - I love houndstooth print! However, this side zip pouch isn't a nice canvas material, its a strange, cheap feeling plastic. The pink zipper opens to reveal a pink lining - I think red would've looked cooler to be honest. Quite disappointing.
Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco
Deluxe Sample (21ml) - $3.20
Full Size (50ml) - $8.99

My Thoughts:
This is the third Marc Anthony product I've received from Ipsy, and the only one I'm going to keep and use. This is an oil treatment for hair - I do love a good oil, so I look forward to trying it, but I'm probably not going to review it. I can't stress enough that I don't want hair care products in my Ipsy bag, but it doesn't seem like Ipsy gets the hint!

The Claims:
This treatment is a lightweight oil used daily for strong, glossy, frizz-free hair. Whether your hair is curly, straight, thick or thin, this Argan Oil Treatment will become a daily staple in your beauty regimen. Created with Mediterranean Olive Oil and Moroccan Argan Oil – the ancestral beauty secret of Morocco – it deeply penetrates to fortify, protect and condition hair. Vitamin E and Shea Butter hydrate and soften.

Skone Cosmetics Luxe Doubler Eye&Lip Pencil in Wine
Full Size - $12

My Thoughts:
A warm, burgundy pencil that can be used on the eyes and lips. This pencil has decent color payoff, but its somewhat patchy - I tried it on my lips and I didn't like it at all. I also don't recommend using the same pencil on the eyes AND lips, at least not without sanitizing it between the two.

The Claims:
This smooth, creamy pencil is an eyeliner that doubles as a lip pencil. It's multi-purpose design allows you to create a pop of color to line the eyes, fill in the lids, or add color to your wings. Or use it as a lip pencil to easily shape, line or fill in the lip.

 Hikari Lip Gloss in Salsa
Full Size - $13

My Thoughts:
Hikari has thoroughly disappointed me in the past, and I'm quite disinterested in this lip gloss because the brand is owned by same company that owns Be a Bombshell. This bright red gloss is super pigmented, but it smells like a melted crayon.

The Claims:
Check out Hikari’s collection of gorgeous, high-shine matte lip glosses. With these high-pigment lip glosses you can wear them alone or layer them over your favorite lipstick to create intense new colors. They will give you the perfect sultry lip with just the right amount of shine!

Marsk Pro Line Eye Shadow Brush
Full Size - $26

My Thoughts:
I wanted to like this brush, because Marsk is a Sydney based brand and I want to support that, but really this brush is horrific. The synthetic bristles are very plastic feeling and stiff - I've tried swatching a few eyeshadows and it makes even the best, most pigmented shadows look patchy and sheer. I'll have to try it as a concealer brush or something.

The Claims:
These bristles have been precisely shaped to create the perfect eye look. Whether you’re going for subtle or loud – this secret weapon of a brush will execute the perfect look when paired with MARSK Mineral Eyeshadows! What a combination.

Pencil Me In Eye Accent Pencil in Boysenberry
Full Size - $6.99

My Thoughts:
I hate getting two of the same type of product in one Ipsy bag, so I wasn't pleased to pull out a second pencil. This all natural eyeliner isn't very soft or very pigmented, so I'm not at all impressed with it. The purple infused navy shade is pretty though

The Claims:
Pencil Me In natural eyeliner pencils go on silky smooth and will last all day. The natural formula is infused with vitamins and anti-oxidants so the skin is actually receiving a benefit. There are 30 fun colors to choose from; plus each pencil comes with a built-in sharpener in the cap.

 Real Techniques Concealer Brush
Full Size - $8

My Thoughts:
I redeemed 250 IpsyPoints for this brush, and I'm glad of it. I love Real Techniques brushes and I want all of them! This brush can be used for concealer or highlighter - I think I'll be using it mostly for the latter!

The Claims:
The angled cut provides precision application to camouflage skin imperfections and create a spotless base for any look.
Total Value of my August 2015 Ipsy Bag:
$69.19

A high value bag full of uninteresting products. Honestly, I would've preferred most of the other products over any of these. Ipsy sent out so many amazing products this month that I've already tried and enjoyed, or am dying to try, and I feel like I got the scrapings from the bottom of the beauty barrel. It's hard to get hyped for no-name brands like Hikari, Skone Cosmetics, and Pencil Me In when other people are getting items from Too Faced, Juice Beauty, Briogeo and Tarte. I feel like Ipsy really needs to find a balance of brands for each bag. I'm tempted to cancel Ipsy and move on to another sub - but I'm not sure where, and I have some IpsyPoints that I'd like to blow through. I'm definitely going to switch to the Sephora subscription when it becomes available in my area. Well...here's to hoping for a good September bag.

  1. That stinks about your bag, I hate when you keep getting the same brands, I want variety! I haven't gotten my bag yet!! I don't know where it is :((((( But I do have to say I can't wait to get the bag itself, I am in love with houndstooth!
