Wedding Planning+Immigration Update

If you've read any of my previous posts or tweets about wedding planning, you'll know that I hate it. Its tedious and boring and frankly I just don't give GOSH DARN. I've managed to put those feelings aside and finally start to get stuff done! Click through to see how everything is coming along.

I registered on easyweddings.com.au, which has been surprisingly helpful. This site provides checklists and listings of venues and other service providers.
Shortly after I wrote my last update, I settled on a dress. A traditional white dress was always out of the question, I am far too pale and short for that! I was going between a navy dress or an aqua one, and settled on the navy one above! This dress was from ModCloth and cost just $90. Do you like it? I'm regretting it just a tiny bit, only because we picked a date in the middle of summer - January 13, one of the hottest days of the year. Oops.

We had save the date magnets made on VistaPrint. I highly recommend it if your wedding budget is limited, or if you're not too fussy. You choose your design (ours is Bistro Lights, if you like it), fill in your information, and click order. It couldn't be any simpler than that. The price was unbeatable as well $10/10 magnets+free envelopes. I ordered 40 magnets and after a sale, coupon code, and eBates rebate we paid only $24. My order arrived in just six days. I was super satisfied and am going to order my invitations through VistaPrint as well.

We've decided we're just going to get married in court. Its cheap and fast. My very religious mother had a few protests, but its definitely the right choice for us. Dean and I aren't religious, and really its just one less thing to fuss over.

We've been looking at reception venues as well, but we haven't settled on anything. Please let me just say that looking at venues has been one of the least enjoyable things I have EVER done. Wow, it was painfully dull. There are three venues that we're thinking bout - AquaDining, the Castlereagh Hotel, or Queen Victoria Tea Room. We just want a short two or three hour cocktail and hors d'oeuvre thing or afternoon tea. Something quick and simple.

We'll be putting my visa application in very soon, by the end of July! After that its just a waiting game. Its supposed to take between 12 and 15 months to process, so I should be in Australia by November 2016! I'm nervous, but confident - and excited to start my new life in Sydney.

I'll update yinz again after our reception venue is booked and my visa application is lodged!

  1. This is so exciting! I'm so happy for you two! And the magnet announcements were a good idea IMO, since your guests can keep them and they'll be useful. I also like your dress! It beats spending hundreds on a dress you'll only wear once! Truthfully, when I get married I'll probably court house it to lol...I too would get bored with all the stupid little things you have to do for a wedding, I guess I just don't care for ridiculous little details, like cream, eggshell, or off white napkins :p but to,each their own I'm sure some do haha anyway I'm so happy for you two!! :)

    1. Oh God do I feel you. Some of the venues I looked at were like "choose your table cloth and napkin color" and then had like a hundred options. WHY! I'm glad you like my dress tho n_n thanks for reading.

  3. Awww I'm so excited for you! Big weddings are too darn expensive and overrated, especially because they go by so fast. I know I mentioned in one of your updates about my wedding and how I wanted a quick courthouse wedding, but ended up getting married in my now father-in-law's backyard. We had 30 of our closest friends and family there and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It truly goes by so fast though and I go back and look at our wedding photos just to remember things lol

    1. Your wedding sounded so nice :3 We're having about 60 guests (because of +1s) and really it feels almost too big.

  4. Love the dress! That is so pretty and I love the mock wrap criss/cross bodice and the sheer skirt. That is really nice and it's great that you are doing it your way and not having to be traditional with white dress and church and all.
