Maybelline Volume Express Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara Review

The newest member of Maybelline's ever expanding Volume Express line is the Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara. Maybelline says "Get pumped up volume, up to 16x, with Maybelline's first double shot brush that scoops up an extra shot of plumping formula for the most pumped up, volumizing lashes ever. Lashes go bigger, bolder, and more extreme." This mascara contains 9.7ml (.33 fl oz) and sells for between $6-9, depending on where you buy. This mascara is available in three shades in both washable and waterproof formulas. My review features the shade Glam Black in the washable version. Maybelline is not cruelty free. This mascara was made in the USA.

Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara comes in a long, pointed, hot coral tube. The Maybelline logo and product name are printed on the tube in metallic yellow letters. The color combo is eye catching and appealing. The cardboard backing this mascara is packed in offers plenty of product information and a full ingredient list. This mascara has an interesting brush. The wand is curvy, I'm not sure what purpose that serves. The elongated, football shaped brush is made of traditional bristles. The bristles are longest in the middle. The bristles are evenly spaced and hold a good amount of product. Maybelline's Pumped Up! Colossal brush is easy to work with. Packaging is not recyclable.
Like most Maybelline Volume Express mascaras, Pumped Up! Colossal is quite wet. Because of the high moisture content, this mascara does not hold a curl very well, I tend to curl my lashes before and after application when using Pumped Up! This mascara builds up volume nicely, it can get a little clumpy after the second coat. Pumped Up! doesn't add a significant amount of length. The Glam Black shade is super dark, one of the blackest mascaras I've ever used! I've had mixed wear with Maybelline's Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara - some days it wears perfectly well, other days I get a fair bit of flakies and smudgies. I haven't been able to figure out what triggers the poor wear. This mascara is easy to remove.
For the most part, I like Maybelline's Pumped Up! Colossal Mascara. The packaging is cute and the brush is easy to work with. This mascara gives good volume, but not a lot of length. I think the waterproof version of this Volume Express mascara might be the safer bet, considering the occasionally poor wear I've experienced. That being said, I definitely think this mascara is worth trying it you're looking for volume.
