Lime Crime Suedeberry Velvetine Review

Lime Crime's Velvetines are "long wearing, kiss proof lip stains that glide on with the ease of a gloss and dries to a matte, velvet finish." Lime Crime offers three shades, this review is for Suedeberry. Each Velvetine Lip Stain contains 3g (.11 oz) and sells for $20 (I bought mine for $18AUD At Sydney IMATS). Lime Crime is a cruelty free brand, their Velvetines are vegan friendly. This product was made in the United States. Lime Crime products are available through the brand's website and a small number of boutiques and online retailers.

Lime Crime is known for their fanciful packaging. The Velvetines comes in red and lilac cardboard boxes. The front features the product name and brand logo. A full ingredient list can be found on the back of the box. Pulling the box open will reveal a product description and application tips. The product it's self comes in a frosted tube with a twist off cap decorated to match the box. Velvetines feature a basic doe foot applicator.
Lime Crime's Velvetine Liquid Lip Stain isn't quite like any other product I've encountered. This liquid lipstick applies nicely, one coat goes on almost completely opaque. I advise against adding a second layer before it dries fully, as it'll cause the product to ball up on the lips. The Suedeberry Velvetine applies like a creamy lip product, but within 30-50 seconds it dries down to a velvety matte finish. Once this stuff is fully dried, get ready for some serious staying powder - Lime Crime's Velvetines are one of the longest wearing lip products I've ever used. On me, Suedeberry doesn't feather or bleed, and only transfers if I've eaten something greasy. After about three hours Suedeberry begins to wear away, leaving behind a strong, true to color stain that lasts up to four more hours. The longevity is crazy. If you need to remove this lip stain, your best bet is an oil based makeup remover. The Velvetine formula is pretty drying and will cling to and accentuate dry patches, so before to thoroughly prep your lips before application. Lime Crime's Velvetines have an vague, artificial vanilla scent and flavor.
Suedeberry is a beautiful color. Lime Crime describes it as a "Strawberry red, often associated with 1950's icon Marilyn Monroe". Suedeberry is a bright, slightly coral tinged red. The name Velvetine describes the finish perfectly. Suedeberry dries down to a soft, suede-like matte - think of a rose petal for a texture reference. The finish is lovely. To call Lime Crime's Suedeberry a bold lip would be an understatement. L'Oreal's La Lacque in I Lacque You a Lot is similar in color (though the format and finish are entirely different).
I bought Lime Crime's Suedeberry Velvetine with the intention of wearing it as a special occasion lip color, but I can't stop reaching for it! This lip product has pretty, whimsical packaging. The formula is very long wearing, though drying. Suedeberry is a beautiful, bright red with a velvety smooth finish. I hope to pick up the other two shades, Red Velvet and Pink Velvet when I can afford it. Lime Crime's Velvetines are pricey, but in my opinion they're worth it. I definitely recommend this awesome liquid lip stain. I'm very impressed!

    1. Velvetine reviews seem really mixed, I guess it depends on the user's lips. The formula probably isn't for everyone. You're definitely not timid when it comes to lip products though, so I hope you enjoy Suedeberry!
