Kat Von D Immortal Lash Mascara Review

Kat Von D Immortal Lash Mascara Review
Kat Von D says "Power up lashes to their full potential with Kat's 24-hour wear mascara. The 3-in-1 silicone Power Spiral brush features a spiked stem that thickens from root to end, lash-separating spiral bristles, and a spherical brush tip that reaches even the tiniest corners. The ultra-black formula is infused with conditioning vitamins A and E for soft, supple lashes. Unlike waterproof formulas, Immortal Lash 24-Hour Mascara won’t flake, and removes effortlessly with your favorite cleanser—no scrubbing necessary." Immortal Lash Mascara contains 8ml and retails for $20 ($28AUD) exclusively at Sephora, or for £16 at Debenham's in the UK. Kat Von D's makeup line is cruelty free and and most products are vegan friendly. This mascara was made in Italy.

Like all of Kat Von D's products, the Immortal Lash Mascara's packaging has a gorgeous feminine yet edgy vibe. This mascara comes housed in a black plastic tube with  red holographic lettering and floral details. Unfortunately, the lettering has worn away quite easily. This mascara's packaging doesn't seem to be recyclable.

I think Kat Von D's team tried a little too hard to make a unique wand. While I can see what they were going for - a gently curved wand with a ball tip to access the inner corners - they really ended up with an overly bouncy brush that makes application kinda inconvenient. The length of Immortal Lash's brush is made of sparse, spiraling rubber bristles that catch and comb through the lashes. The tip of the brush rounds out into a semi-spherical shape with shorter, more densely packed bristles that are meant to catch small lashes and build volume near the lash line. Perhaps it's my eye shape, or a lack of skill or patience, but I typically don't like multi zoned brushes, and Immortal Lash's brush isn't an exception.
Kat Von D Immortal Lash Mascara Brush
This mascara and I have had a strange journey together. Initially, the formula was thin and a little drier than I prefer and did next to nothing for my lashes, aside from give them a blackened tint. I was immensely disappointed, and let it sit to the side for a few weeks before picking it back up. When I reached for Immortal Lash again, the formula had thickened up and gained some moisture, and it gave me much better results. Two coats of Kat Von D's mascara gives me a moderate amount of length and lift, but no real volume to speak of. Despite drying to a crisp, stiff, matte finish; Immortal Lash can't hold a curl worth a damn, and my lashes end up straight as an arrow after just an hour or two of wear. This mascara doesn't stop disappointing me there - it also fails to live up to it's 24 hour long wearing claims - in fact, I've never had Immortal Lash last longer than 6 hours on me. This mascara begins flaking after three to four hours, and is almost completely gone after six. As promised, it is easily removed with my favorite micellar water, "no scrubbing necessary".
Kat Von D Immortal Lash Mascara Swatch
I never really heard anyone talk about Kat Von D's Immortal Lash Mascara before I received it as a gift, and I understand why - it's quite underwhelming! From the strange brush, to the lack of impact, to the flaky wear, I just don't like anything about this mascara - aside from the gorgeous packaging. This mascara just isn't worth trying in my opinion, you can find a plethora of superior mascaras at Sephora (like Tarte's Lights, Camera, Lashes, or Marc Jacobs' Velvet Noir*), or at the drugstore (might I suggest Covergirl's Clump Crusher?). Don't waste your money on Kat Von D's Immortal Lash Mascara - you're better off investing in one of her more well known products.
