NYX Lip Primer Review

NYX says "create the perfect canvas for lipcolor with this texture and color enhancing superhero. Ensures that lip product lasts and does not go outside the lines. Somebody get this product a cape!" NYX' Lip Primer contains 3 grams (.1 oz) of product and sells for $7. This lip primer is available in two nearly colorless tones, I have the lighter of the two, though I don't think it'll matter which one you have, unless you have quite light or dark skin. NYX is a cruelty free brand. This lip primer was made in Taiwan.

NYX Lip Primer has super simple packaging, it comes in the form of a twist up pencil, which makes it extra convenient. This product is housed in a black plastic tube with a clear cap; the product name and a full ingredient list are printed on the packaging in white lettering. All packaging is recyclable.
 [Primer on the LEFT]
I don't have a ton of experience with lip primers, the only one I've tried is Too Faced Lip Insurance, which is an entirely different format, so excuse me if this review comes across as inept. NYX Lip Primer is a colorless, velvety, but slightly waxy that applies to the lips with just a little bit of a tug. This lip primer can be used as a colorless lip liner around the edges of the lips, to prevent slippage and feathering, or applied all over to smooth the lips and help product adhere and last longer. Personally, I use it for both! NYX Lip Primer is quite strange in the way that it works. This primer smooths over dryness and chapping, and reduces the appearance of lip lines, providing a nice, even canvas for any lip product. Why is that strange? Because it makes my lips look terrible and flaky on it's own. Weird. This lip primer also mutes the color of my lips slightly, making most lip colors appear bolder and more true to color. Its hard to tell if NYX Lip Primer helps lip products last longer or not, really its dependent on the lipstick's formula, however I find that it does seem to prevent transferring. NYX Lip Primer is neither hydrating nor drying, and it has a soft, sugar cookie-ish scent but no flavor.
[This is Bare Minerals' Get Ready, if you were wonderin'. Primer on the LEFT]
Eh, NYX Lip Primer is alright, but it doesn't work any wonders. This primer creates a nice base for lipsticks and glosses, but it won't necessarily help them last longer. NYX Lip Primer is a decent budget option, but if you have money to spend, I think Too Faced Lip Insurance is a better choice; it'll keep your lippies on longer, and the formula is marginally more comfortable.
