Maybelline Caviar Couture Color Elixir Review+Swatches

Maybelline says "experience saturated lip color, sensuous balm care and polished lip shine from Maybelline New York Color Elixirs by Color Sensational. The exclusive smoothing angora brush delivers a polished, even application and smoothing sensation to lips. The balm infused formula with pure color pigments leave lips feeling cushiony soft." Color Elixirs are available in twenty gorgeous shades - this review is for Caviar Couture, the deepest shade. Each of these glosses contain 5ml (.17 oz) and retail for between $7-10. Maybelline is not cruelty free. This lip gloss was made in the USA.

Maybelline's Color Elixirs come in thick, clear plastic tubes with a silver twist off cap. The product is contained in a slanted well that kinda looks like a lipstick. Removing the cap reveals a uniquely shaped, slanted, very fuzzy doe foot applicator. The product name and number can be found on a sticker on the bottom of the tube. The tube is chunky but compact, very purse and pocket friendly.
Maybelline's Color Elixirs are an interesting product - they seem like they're more than just a lip gloss. Caviar Couture is a thick lip gloss thats difficult to apply in an even layer (as you'll see in my lip swatch). This gloss feels thick and slick on the lips. Color Elixirs feel very moisturizing on the lips. I get pretty good wear from Caviar Couture, the gloss stays put for about two hours. After the glossy finish wears away, Caviar Couture leaves a stain that lasts another hour or so. Maybelline's Color Elixirs are quite prone to transferring on to cups and cheeks. This lip gloss has a grape-like scent and a generic lip gloss flavor on the lips. The scent is pretty strong in the tube, but barely noticeable on the lips.
Caviar Couture is a rich, deep plummy purple with a touch of silver and fuchsia shimmer that are barely visible on the lips. Caviar Couture has excellent color payoff, it applies almost completely opaque - though you can add more color with a second layer (though the finish will be uneven) or sheered out if you'd prefer. This shade has a shiny, patent leather finish. I love Caviar Couture, its so dark and elegant - fantastic for winter.
I really like Maybelline's Caviar Couture Color Elixir. This gloss is a little difficult to apply in an even coating. Otherwise, the formula is awesome. This gloss is moisturizing and long wearing (for a lip gloss). Caviar Couture is such a beautiful deep plum with excellent pigmentation and a high shine finish. Packaging is plain but functional. I feel like the price of Maybelline's Color Elixir is a little high, but Maybelline is releasing coupons for them left and right. I hope to pick up Mandarin Rapture and Intoxicating Spice soon. I definitely recommend checking out Maybelline's Color Elixirs - these glosses are awesome!

P.S Color Elixirs have been added to Maybelline Permanent range - and they're already releasing limited edition shades!

  1. I didn't get this shade at first because I thought it would be shimmery on the lips but it looks great here! I'd go get it but unfortunately I can't stand the taste on these :\ Intoxicating Spice is a really awesome shade though!
