Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation Review (51 Vanilla Clair)

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation "reveals and boosts the radiance of the complexion with it's vitamin rich fruit therapy formula. This fresh gel foundation blends on to the skin for an even, very natural finish with no streaks. Imperfections are erased, signs of fatigue are smoothed, the radiance of the complexion is boosted for 16 hours." This popular drugstore foundation is dermatologist tested and hypoallergenic. Between the overwhelmingly positive reviews and the constant recommendation of this foundation by my favorite YouTuber Jennifer Wan, I knew I had to try it. Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation contains 30ml (1 fl oz) and sells for $32 (I managed to score it at Priceline for just $24). Bourjois does not test on animals. This foundation is made in France. Bourjois products are available at drugstores around the world, though not in the US. For those in the US wanting to try Bourjois, your best bet is Asos.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation comes in a tall, slim, round, clear plastic bottle topped with an eye catching red cap. The product name and images of fruits grace the front of the bottle. Some claims and a full ingredient list can be found on the back of the bottle. Removing the brightly colored cap reveals a white pump. Normally I rejoice at the sight of a foundation with a pump, but I'm not a fan of this one. Firstly, Healthy Mix Serum's pump dispenses a very small amount of product at a time, and secondly mine leaks. All packaging is recyclable.
The Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is a lightweight, gel like liquid foundation that offers "undetectable coverage" for a "flawless complexion". To be a little more clear, this is a light coverage foundation that promises 16 hours of wear and a semi-matte finish. Bourjois boasts that the formula is infused with lychee, goji berry, and pomegranate extracts, however these are all quite low on the ingredient list. This foundation is very easy to apply with a variety of tools and techniques. Personally, I like to apply Healthy Mix Serum with a dampened sponge, but it also goes on well with fingers, a flat brush, or a buffing brush - really you can't go wrong.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation has such a lovely formula - it was love at first application. No matter how its applied, Healthy Mix Serum just glides onto the skin and it blends so, so seamlessly with almost no effort. As promised, this foundation's coverage is light, but it can certainly be built up to almost full coverage. For me, with the sponge application method, it covers imperfections and evens out my complexion for the most part, though a little redness still peeks through. Bourjois promised a streak free application, and they certainly meant it. Healthy Mix Serum has a perfect, smooth finish that melds with the skin beautifully, giving a no makeup look. I'm hesitant to confirm the semi-matte finish. In some ways I agree, in others I don't. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum has what I'd call a natural finish. Yes, it is on the matte-r side, bu it also has this subtle, gorgeous luminosity; the way this foundation catches the light is amazing. This foundation has no noticeable shimmer. While I can't say this foundation wears for 16 hours as promised, but I can say that it does hold up extremely well - even on intensely hot days it doesn't break down or transfer.
Unfortunately, the shade selection for Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation is limited to just five shades (at least in Australia, there may be more or less in other countries). I wear the lightest shade, Vanilla Clair (51). All five shades are in the light-medium range and are yellow tinged. Vanilla Clair is yellow toned, but not too far from neutral. This shade isn't a perfect match for me, perhaps a half a shade too dark for me. I think 51 is passable on me if I blend down the neck.
I love Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation! Packaging is attractive, though I wish the pump was better quality. The formula is just wonderful - blendable, buildable, and long wearing. I'd love for the shade selection to be expanded, even though I do fit into the range. Shade 51, Vanilla Clair, suits me well enough. I have no major complains, Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum is an all around excellent foundation for me. This liquid foundation is best suited for those with slightly dry to slightly oily skin. If you fit into that category and the shade range then by all means try this foundation! I'm pretty sure I'll repurchase Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation when I can. This is seriously good stuff!

  1. Perhaps I'll pick up a bottle when I get back to Hong Kong.. right now if I want a more natural, sheer finish, I've been cutting my Revlon Colorstay with MAC Fix+. Still, your review has convinced me to check out Healthy Mix Serum! x
