Bath&BodyWorks Cucumber Melon Shower Gel&Body Lotion Review

Cucumber Melon, what a classic. Haven't we all loved this scent at one point or another? This scent brings back many memories! During last summer's semi-annual sale I grabbed both the shower gel and lotion. The shower gel contains 10 fl oz, the lotion contains 8 fl oz, both of which regularly retail for $11, but I snagged them for $3 a piece. Bath&BodyWorks describes Cucumber Melon as a "crisp fresh scent that evokes the optimism of a dewy summer morning". That's kinda beautiful. Cucumber Melon is discontinued in store, but is available online. This scent also reappears in stores during the Semi Annual Sales held in January and June. Bath&BodyWorks products are not tested on animals and are made in the USA.

Packaging for both the shower gel and body lotion have the same style. These products come in a clear, recyclable hour glass shaped plastic bottle topped off with a silver cap with pop up dispenser. The labels for Cucumber Melon are very appealing. The label features two cucumber slices that appear to be floating in water. The right half of the label is framed by a slide of honeydew melon. Very simple, realistically drawn, and attractive.
We'll start off with the shower gel. This shower gel, which Bath&BodyWorks calls "the perfect daily luxury", is the old formula, from before Bath&BodyWorks reformulated and added shea butter. I'm unsure if Bath&BodyWorks have updated the formulas of their "discontinued" scents. Anyways, these shower gels are pretty good, but nothing impressive. They lather extremely well, you only need just a bit to get loads of fun, luxurious, bubbly lather. This shower gel rinses cleanly. nothing about Bath&BodyWorks Shower Gel benefits my skin at all, but it also doesn't do anything detrimental. All it does is keep my skin clean and smelling good. While we're on the subject of smelling good, I should mention that the Cucumber Melon shower gel is incredibly fragrant, like fills up half the house fragrant.

Moving on to the Cucumber Melon body lotion, which Bath&BodyWorks describes as "fortified with powerful ingredients like super conditioning shea butter, fast absorbing jojoba oil,  and protective Vitamin E; hydrates the skin with moisture that lasts all day." I've recently fallen out of love with Bath&BodyWorks body lotions, I now favor the Avon Naturals Body Lotions for a variety of reasons. That doesn't mean Bath&BodyWork's lotions aren't great too though. This lotion delivers just the right amount of moisture and sinks in very quickly, never feeling greasy or gross. The moisture this lotion formula imparts lasts all day. This is a great daily lotion for those without needy skin.
Since Cucumber Melon is one of Bath&BodyWorks older scents, the scent notes are much simpler. Bath&BodyWorks lists only four scent notes:
Fresh Cucumber, Muguet, Cool Honeydew, Soft Musk
See, nice and simple. Both the shower gel and body lotion don't smell very good in the bottle, but once they're on the skin, they're amazing! Cucumber Melon is light, clean, and very neutral. This scent is green, it smells kinda like cucumbers, which isn't the most pungent scent. There's just a touch of a fruity melon note that keeps Cucumber Melon from being too dull. This scent is very balanced. Several companies have tried to recreate Cucumber Melon, but none of them do it quite like Bath&BodyWorks.
Its a true shame that Bath&BodyWorks chose to discontinue Cucumber Melon. Its a classic, I think this scent is what put Bath&BodyWorks on the map. I remember sample it in a Bath&BodyWorks store with my best friend at the time, when I was like 11 or 12, and they had all the old style packaging. Not only is Cucumber Melon a well balanced, pleasant, simple scent, its also quite nostalgic. The quality of the shower gel and body lotion are both on par with what you expect and pay for at Bath&BodyWorks. If you've been missing this scent, don't worry, you can grab it online anytime, or just buy the hand soap, which is still available in store. Maybe one day Bath&BodyWorks will bring back this much loved scent.

  2. I *love* this scent! I didn't realize they still had it available on line. I have gotten similar scents, but no one can do cucumber melon like B&BW! I used to work at express eons ago (when B&BW's were attached, and Structure was on the other side) and I would spend more of my paycheck at B&BW instead of Express, lol
